BirdStone digital can design, create, produce & manage visual content for various multi-media platforms
Although we have consolidated the service we provide into the following 5 sub sections, these services can often overlap. The ‘read more’ buttons below will take you to a more detailed page better explaining each service and helping you to understand the processes involved. Should you require a digital service that is not listed below, then please do not hesitate to contact us; if we are unable to carry out the work ourselves, we will likely be able to put you in touch with the right people for the job.
motion graphics
Motion Graphics is a widely used term that in it’s most basic form simply applies to moving imagery. It incorporates the same principles of graphic design along with key principles of animation to produce a variety of styles and effects often seen within corporate or infographic videos, logo idents and even television and web advertising.
Motion Graphics can be one of the simplest, as well as most powerful, forms of video creation. It is often combined with other techniques such as 3d visualisation or visual effects to help add an additional dimension to the final composition, enhancing the visual impact for the end viewer. For this reason, Motion Graphics is our most commonly requested skillset and offers clients the most cost effective method to produce videos.
3d animation
3d animation or visualisation refers to objects and movements that have been virtually created within a three dimensional environment. It offers real world principals such as lighting, reflections, camera lenses and even gives the option for dynamic simulations, such as fluids, gravity and other physics-based algorithms. It is the basis for video game design and the majority of modern day movie effects.
On a smaller scale it is often utilised within product videos or adverts where objects need to either look photo-real or move within a full 3d environment. It is also used within architectural fly-throughs and other interactive applications such as virtual reality.
Perfect for:
visual effects
Visual Effects, often referred to as VFX, is the combination of existing video footage with various techniques to either alter or enhance the final output. This can be as obvious as adding a new 3d creation into the original film footage, or as subtle as removing a small object that should not be in shot. These various digital effects include post production techniques such as green screening, rotoscoping, camera tracking, matte painting and many more which can be combined to create the modified footage ready for export.
In the early days of cinema, visual effects use to be extremely specialist, consequently only becoming available with Hollywood budgets. These days the tools required to achieve these high-end visual effects have become more readily available and much more financially viable, hence why the term ‘fix it in post’ has become so popular amongst cameramen.
Perfect for:
video editing
Video editing is the art of selecting, reordering and manipulating various segments of film footage, combining this with appropriate audio mixes to eventually create a visual story that takes viewers along a predetermined journey dictated by the directors final cut.
It can be a laborious task, especially when the raw footage is disorganised, as it will require repetitive scrubs through the timeline until the correct arrangement can be decided upon. This is why time-coded log sheets should always be created during filming, to help editors know where each recorded shot fits into the story-line, as well as any outtakes that should be removed from the potential shot list. This is the main reasons behind the invention of the iconic clapper board used in movie productions, along with the vital written information prior to each take, they also provide an audio cue point to match the sound to the visuals.
Perfect for:
graphic design
Graphic design incorporates a number of techniques and processes for creating the desired impression through the use of still imagery. It applies many of the same foundations behind other services we offer, but in this case we use it to refer to static productions, such as branding or web design. Should you require any graphics for either screen or print, then we can help throughout the design process – happily communicating with printers or other web designers to ensure everything runs as smoothly as possible and there is no unnecessary workload placed on yourself.
It is not uncommon that whilst creating animated content, static marketing material can be quickly generated off the back, providing helpful graphics for future campaigns. We like to make our clients aware of extra benefits or possibilities that can be achieved through alternative use of any hard work already carried out. Another advantage of using ourselves for your project is that we have access to high end 3d software, should your graphic montage require additional bespoke elements that are not possible to create from scratch using 2d software. Whatever your needs, be it brochures, interactive pdfs, brand assets, web applications, or all the above; we know what to do.
