The project brief did require the use of a human hand, and with our partners at Nymbl, we had the idea to create the piece as if the camera was looking out from inside of the device, so that we see the front of the hands instead of the back. This concept differs to other whiteboard animations, and did make the alignment of filming near impossible. It was therefore decided to make the hand movement stop frame animation, meaning still photography was taken of each hand position. From this a rig was constructed to cycle through the positions in the necessary order whilst being able to move the hand from various joint positions; allowing the hand to be manipulated in a way to match the screen animation.
